Welcome to Cedar Island Marina Research Laboratory!
Cedar Island Marina Research Laboratory, a private marine research lab founded by Cedar Island Marina, Inc. in 1988, addresses marine issues in Clinton Harbor and the remainder of Long Island Sound. We regularly perform research studies including water quality, aquaculture, finfish, invertebrate and invasive species ecology. Specific study organisms include, but are not limited to: the Northern Star Coral (Astrangia poculata), Winter Flounder (Pseudopleuronectes americanus), Asian Shore Crab (Hemigrapsus sanguineus), Green Crab (Carcinus maenas) and Blue Crab (Callinectes sapidus).
We have been recognized not only for our scientific research at conferences around the country but also for our environmental education programs, which have reached over 55,000 children and adults. We offer both Guided Field Explorations at Hammonasset State Park and Traveling Touch Tanks where we bring Long Island Sound to you!
Cedar Island Marina Research Laboratory has collaborated, and authored studies, with organizations such as the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Aquaculture, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Connecticut Department of Environmental and Energy Protection, Southern Connecticut State University, University of Connecticut Sea Grant, as well as many other public and private entities.
